Milgram summarized the experiment in his 1974 article, "The Perils of Obedience", writing:

"The legal and philosophic aspects of obedience are of enormous importance, but they say very little about how most people behave in concrete situations. I set up a simple experiment at Yale University to test how much pain an ordinary citizen would inflict on another person simply because he was ordered to by an experimental scientist. Stark authority was pitted against the subjects' [participants'] strongest moral imperatives against hurting others, and, with the subjects' [participants'] ears ringing with the screams of the victims, authority won more often than not. The extreme willingness of adults to go to almost any lengths on the command of an authority constitutes the chief finding of the study and the fact most urgently demanding explanation.

while on tour i found myself solely concerned with the present- the truly tangible tasks at hand; driving, loading, playing, sleeping. even when internet was available i rarely indulged, and when i did it was to self inform with events and headlines (i.e. www.daviddarling.info). It really wasn't a feasible option to post my own escapades. maybe because i was to busy participating or maybe because i felt it would have ostracised the late nights of exploring, conversing etc... plus its nice to escape the digital world. however being back in my room, sleeping in the same bed every night it seems more appropriate to exploit site experience/ opinions/ general updates with the musical endeavor entitled boomsnake. soooo- update: an album is being written/ recorded. no release date, no title.
i would also like to thank everyone who helped us along this recent tour, we couldn't have made it without you-- wether you gave us some sleep space, fed us (chocolate gravy,,,mmm), gave us directions, bought beers, high fives, came to a show, booked a show, Thank You. May you be blessed with the same kindness you bestowed upon us.

few nights ago we played with D NUMBERS in Santa Fe NM- amazingly fun show, great people. had an evening of conversation and revelation back at there place till the early morn. check em 0ut- they tour pretty often, go see them-
we left their place at 7am and drove through a snowy mountain pass to Texas- spent the rest of that day watching lightning and trying to get sound samples of thunder- actually didn't go that well cause of the rain factor.
-- had an afternoon fire on Easter, played some baseball-- no eggs though, actually we were searching for a park on the drive between Lubbock(where we played on sat) and Austin(where we were going to play tonight- but the show got canceled on us) and ended up at a dirty dirty public sex park- it was behind a railroad track, filled with cigarette butts, and had some filthy/disturbing magazines littering the ground, along with some crazy tags-- it took us about 15 minutes to figure out what was going on, but when the trucks and cars of old men started to show up we found a new place to worship the season of rebirth and her Goddess/("The ancient Saxons in Northern Europe worshiped the Goddess Oestre at the time of the Spring Equinox- The Goddess Easter represents the sunrise, spring-time and fertility, the renewal of life).

Bizarre History of the Merkin:

Although the merkin may seem like a “fresh” idea to you, it actually has a centuries old history through many continents.
By its name, “merkin” the pubic wig is said to have been worn as far back as 1620. Originally, prostitutes as well as other women with pubic lice used the merkin to cover the pubic area after shaving. The merkin was also popular after being treated for “French Pox” or syphilis which was back then treated with mercury which caused the pubic hair to fall out. The word merkin is believed to be a derivative of the word “malkin” which could mean a mop and was also used as a demeaning word to describe low class women. The Japanese are also famous for their merkins which are often used to add pubic hair to those lacking it for one reason or another. Through history, merkins have been made of many different materials or animals. The skin and hair of an animal was cut in a triangular shape and applied to the shaved pubic area with glue. Clearly, the merkin has evolved with the times and is now sometimes worn by striptease dancers in combination with perhaps a set of pasties. Still a great way to trick your pubic audience into thinking they saw the real thing. However, today’s merkin audience is hopefully only about to contract some laughter.

last friday at the che cafe there was a one time only japandi and witt collaboration called nut/crackers. - it was mathy.. it was loud... it was fantastic- Census, Mothlight and the Magical Fuckers all played as well. Today I drove down to El Cajon to pick up Gabriel from a bakery where I found him stuffing all sorts of cake into his face. After talking some sense into the young man, we took a gander at the few pawn shops in the area. Unfortunately, all we saw were guitars that looked like this.

After wasting our time, we hit up Freedom Guitar. You can always count on them to have some chronic gear in stock. We fell in love with this old keyboard called a Casio CZ-1000 and decided to adopt it into our family. While on the topic of old keyboards.... pinch some of your older brothers pot and watch this video of Kraftwerk in the '70s going off HARD!

last weekend we set out to play three shows- it was a weird time

along the eight hour drive to the first show nate puked five times-(three times in the car)- i puked once and spent the rest of the time shivering in a pool of sweat- cory and chelsea were holding it down - eatin "in n out"- we got to the venue loaded in and then canceled- my sickness had escalated to a state of hysterics- (im sorry people of davis, im sorry band members) - then everyone, excluding me, got very drunk to try and forget everything that had just happened- fever sleep-weird morning

the next day we drove to LA and met up with Snuffy, W-box, and ghost orchid- good times- house party
- we started to drive home around one in the morning- we stopped at an "in n out" and were surrounded by serious mall goths- it was like the nineties i was always too young to experience, chain wallets and steel toe boots- kilts and overly abrasive laughing- made me really crave some faygo- chelsea was passed out in the car, and she's the one with the camera, so no pics- but seriously it was like being at the grand opening of a hot topic in Bakersfield- nothing to do but get pierced up and hate your parents

A BOOMSNAKE UPDATE

Okay so-
-- there are two records being recorded right now- One is due to come out early March on cassette tape through Kraken Records. It's a home recording entitled "VITAMINS" -nice and rough- going to be a limited pressing (plus digital dl). The second is being recorded with Adam Lathrum, whom we did "Give and Take" with. There is not yet a set release date or name for this album. I've been writing these songs all along the tours we've been doing (basically since we finished the last record) and it's a head trip the way your environment can skew perception- this unnamed record is also a large part of the reason i relocated to San Diego. The cassette recordings(vitamins) are songs i've had for a while, or wrote on a whim, or concepts with Nate about brain wave fluid, either way they're a comfortable bunch, however the unnamed record was/is-being written as a piece of music intended to be listened to as a whole, at least for now-- (the reason i love recording= options/endless-opportunity-4-changes)---even though there is intention in its composition i'm relyin on the haziness of the subconscious to intertwine the sounds and words-- . As for the live shows, we're doing a full US tour starting April and extending into MAy- so if you want us to play in your town let me know! I just caught wind that the first leg of the tour is already booked so ill be posting dates soon enough.
